Town Twinning project – “Think Green – Be Green. Together for a healthier environment”

The Municipality of San Filippo del Mela (Italy) promoted a Town Twinning titled “Think Green –Be Green. Together for a healthier environment”. The activities were held from 7 to 12 October2025 in Sicily with the participation of different European municipalities coming from ItalyHungary Portugal Malta Bulgaria and Spain.The project’s thematic focus with strong reference to the program guidelines and considering the priorities of the CERV Program focused on promoting green behavior among citizens and sustainability in small European local communities.Environmental policies in Europe represent a crucial commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change biodiversity conservation and overall sustainability.The EU has developed a comprehensive regulatory framework and a series of initiatives to promote green policies across the region. The European Green Deal is one of the central pillarsof the EU’s political agenda. This ambitious plan aims to make Europe the first climate-neutralcontinent by 2050. These policies and initiatives reflect Europe’s commitment to promotingsustainable development mitigating climate change and protecting the environment for futuregenerations. The transition to a green economy is a key priority for the European Union andrequires the involvement and commitment of all its members and citizens.The activity plan was developed with the support and input of the various target groups and wasorganized through public workshops roundtables exchanges of best practices discussions anddebates to develop active citizenship. Through these activities citizens and local authorities increased their knowledge and awareness of the role of EU policies thus enabling them to contribute to the implementation of European challenges.

Dissemination activities:

The plan of communication and dissemination activities was at the centre of the action of the project promoted by the Municipality of San Filippo del Mela. The groups of participants alreadycoordinated in the preparatory phase in this regard had the task of cooperating in order todisseminate the project’s objectives and its results with specific actions and tools. In fact eachPartner has implemented measures for the dissemination and exploitation of the results on their own territory in order to ensure the greatest possible visibility and to expand the latter in aEuropean context.It was supported and recommended to all partners to give great prominence to the initiative involving the relevant local media in order to convey information in the countries they belong to highlighting the general and specific objectives of the project and the CERV programme highlighting the opportunities it offers. News and insights relating to the event were published by local online newspapers and printed paper which took care to follow all the events included in the program and highlight them. With the active support of the partner institutions a broad and structured communication plan was developed with the aim of giving maximum dissemination and visibility.The dissemination of the results through the use and application of the results themselves has made it possible to create a multiplier effect acting as a stimulus to give birth to further initiatives adapting them in different contexts. At the end of the project meetings were organized in the area where they had the opportunity to tell their own experience through the presentation of the initiative the results achieved conveying the positive messages that were learned in relation to promote dialogue the exchange of experiences and best practices for the experimentation of new models which see citizens as proactive and active protagonists in building a world attentive to the protection of greenery the opportunities that the new program CERV offers in terms of promoting European citizenship rights and values.

Activities organized: Working group Interactive Seminar public workshops round table exchanges of best practices discussions and debates visits of the territory to develop an active citizenship and to foster interactions between the citizens’ involved Networking Reflection Group and Final evaluation.

DAY 1 – 07/10/25 – Arrival of the project partner delegation + Welcome
Arrival of participants at Catania Airport and transfer to San Filippo del Mela.
Welcome
Introduction of participants and organizations in the presence of the Mayor the City Council and the citizens.
Accommodation of guests with local families.

DAY 2 – 08/10/25 – Flag Raising Ceremony + Project Presentation + Working Group CERVProgramme how can we harness opportunities to encourage active involvement?
Morning: At the Town Hall the Flag Ceremony of the participating countries and the performanceof the national anthems will take place attended by students from elementary and middle schoolsand from the Classical and Scientific High Schools.Presentation of the „Think Green – Be Green. Together for a Healthier Environment” project andits goals and objectives.Afternoon: Working Group – CERV Programme – How can we harness opportunities to encourageactive involvement?An opportunity to engage citizens in initiatives debates and in-depth discussions on issuesrelated to European opportunities. Dinner and overnight stay

DAY 3 – 09/10/25 – Interactive Seminar “European Green Deal” + Focus on “The action of territorial
policies for environmental protection: Small municipalities as a frontier of sustainability”
Morning: Interactive seminar and exchange of best practices on the „European Green Deal.” The
focus will be on green skills and sustainable mobility. Europe aims to be the first carbon-neutral
continent by 2050. This is a challenging but exciting goal, as the EU would serve as a driving force
for other continents, positioning itself as a world leader in the search for international alliances to
define the rules that will ensure sustainable growth.
Afternoon: Focus on „Territorial policies for environmental protection: small municipalities asfrontiers of sustainability.”

DAY 4 – 10/10/25 – Round Table with Schools „To Safe Environmental: To Put Sustainability +Interactive Workshop: “Green Deal for a better Europe”Morning: Round Table with Schools „To Safe Environmental: To Put Sustainability Local Actions”Experiences from partner countries and testimonials. Exchange of best practices and in-depthanalysis of project themes analysis of different national and local situations related toenvironmental protection and sustainability actions. Provide all participants with new insights intoenvironmental emergencies and the solutions to be adopted.Afternoon: Interactive Workshop: „Green Deal for a Better Europe”The effects of climate change are being felt in Europe today. DAY 5 – 11/10/25 – Twinning seminar “Think Green – Be Green. Together for a healthierenvironment” + Interactive Seminar: “Challenges on Sustainable Goals”Morning: Ceremony of brotherhood between cities with the playing of the national and Europeananthems. Support for democracy peace and freedom are the fundamental priorities of the EU. Twinning Seminar „Think Green – Be Green. Together for a healthier environment” withpresentations by citizens experts local and regional politicians MEPs and local mayors and anexchange of gifts.Afternoon: Interactive Seminar: „Challenges on Sustainable Goals”Reflection on the challenges that must be addressed to contribute to the achievement of theSustainable Development Goals identified in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Suggest ideas andcontribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by raising awareness andengaging young people in an innovative way that gives space to good ideas and encourages thecreativity and initiative of tomorrow’s innovators.
